Um, well...I suppose knowing where would benefit farmers or locating fertile land for settlement.

[Exhaustion is no excuse! Sherlock is exhausted half the time too.]

No no no! It's when you encounter a soil sample on a piece of evidence, or even a person! Knowledge of the origin of that soil could be the vital clue used to crack any case!

[At Holmes witty comment, he frowns. And then with a shrug.] I don't know about that, you have to consider it could have been planted.

[What a greenhorn Naruhodou is. He clearly still has a lot to learn about cracking murder cases- or, really, any kind of case.]

Hah! Aha... [Give him a second, he needs to wipe a tear of laughter from his eye.] Even so, one must investigate this evidence as legitimate until proven false. Those are the ground rules. [RIMSHOT.]

[With his own performance coming up soon, Klavier is uncharacteristically snappish and irritable -- at least, uncharacteristic to anyone who's only ever seen the laid-back prosecutor and not the perfectionist musician. The best way out, he figures, is to get some jamming done. Write something new, something he doesn't expect to be perfect.]

[A quick mental message to Sherlock, and he's taking the man up on a standing offer. Which means showing up at his place, looking as if he'd just rolled out of bed, with his guitar case lazily slung over a shoulder.]

[Temperamental musician, meet temperamental musician. Sherlock's still a bit disgruntled that the kittens are gone, even if it's been a few weeks now. All the more reason to channel his emotions into creativity, he figures, but that doesn't mean everything's immediately fixed.

When he answers the door, he gives off an air of distraction more than anything else. Much like Klavier, he looks like he's only just gotten up, dressed in more casual attire and his hair a bit of a mess.]

Mr. Gavin... Good afternoon.

[guitarosecutor]

An afternoon we'll make good, I hope. [Klavier, as is his wont, absently twiddles a lock of hair.] A little creative freedom does the soul wonders, ja?

Ja... [...] Yes. Yes, quite right. Please, come in.

[He straightens himself up to some degree, then steps aside to let Klavier enter the house. It is very messy, with books and clothes all over the place. Clearly a bachelor's pad in dire need of someone to clean it, but Sherlock gets a little fussy when Ryuu touches his stuff, so it's mostly left where it is.]

[Klavier's not a man to criticize anyone's mess. He keeps his own areas tidier, but that's the prosecutor in him at work -- one can't effectively make one's case in court if one has lost the autopsy report beneath three layers of sheet music. So he steps on in without reaction, heaving the case down onto a free spot of floor.]

[Sherlock trudges along after Klavier as they make their way to the living room. Wagahai the kittycat is asleep in some obscure corner and Ryuunosuke is not home right now, so if the music takes a wrong turn, he won't suffer from damaged hearing.]

Were you interested in my experimental magitech violin, or would you prefer the untouched, classic Stradivarius?

[guitarosecutor]

[Klavier's eyes practically shine, not entirely with delight, at the mention of a true and untouched violin from home. How nice it must be to have your own proper instrument, that made the sounds you wanted it to, to not have to juryrig some contraption to get as close as you could which was still five miles away!]

[With a wistful sigh, he shakes his head.] I'm playing with my modified guitar. That's as close as I can get. And the backup will be magitech too, so if I really want to unwind for the show...

[Sherlock takes note of the somewhat conflicting reaction, even if he can't quite put a finger on what it implies. He's trained himself to take note of even the slightest gesture and twitch, so he keeps doing it on instinct, but heck if he knows for certain what it means half the time.]

Say no more, say no more. Magitech it is! [He whirls himself around and digs through a sizable pile of rubbish beside his desk, until he's finally gotten hold of a large case. From within it, he pulls out his modified violin. There's a few cores embedded into it.]

I must say, it has an interesting sound to it now. Not quite what I expected to hear, yet it isn't disagreeable in the least, so I left it as it is.

Interesting. That's one word. [Still not over his immense irritation with the difference between a real guitar and this cobbled-together one, Klavier flips open the latches on his case to pull out his own instrument of choice. Just holding the guitar is enough to send a hint of an electric tingle through the air.]

[A smile dawns on Sherlock's face at the tingle. Gloomy as his mood may have been, his appreciation for music and magitechnology overcomes it. See, this was a great idea after all. He's so glad that he thought of it. (Except that he didn't, because it was Klavier's suggestion.)]

What shall we play? Something classical from the heart, perhaps?

Playing from the heart is exactly what I wish. So much practice and preparation for a show... you need it to sound good, but you start to forget what it is to create, ja?

[He slides the guitar's strap over his shoulder, settling it into place like the very stereotype of embracing a lover. Grumble as he might, this is still his instrument.]

Ja! [...Oof, he fell for the German again.]

To create the most beautiful of music from scratch, that is the true gift of artists like ourselves. Let's have at it, then, and see where the mood takes us.

[With that, he reaches down into the case to pick up the bow that accompanies the violin. He settles it carefully against his shoulder, pressing his fingers against the strings. Aaah, what a good jam session this will be.]

[Klavier starts without hesitation, simple and strong, a repeating pattern of three chords that sounds ideal for raging against machines. Something for Sherlock to build off of, since Klavier has no idea where a violinist's muse will wander.]

[Where a violinist's muse will wander is actually quite different from where Sherlock's muse will wander. Depending on his mood, he can go in any direction. He's feeling relatively good right now, though, which is why he'll join in on Klavier's three chords, just at a higher tone.]

[guitarosecutor]

[Up to him to lead, eh? Well, Klavier can do that no problem -- his fingers begin to wander over the strings. The melody that comes out is slower and more somber than his usual affairs, thanks to the influence of the violin.]

[Ah, slow and somber... Not what Sherlock was expecting, but he can work with it. The violin starts mingling into the tune with faster, briefer notes, almost as if it's filling in gaps.]

[guitarosecutor]

[Klavier has a wider ranger than most of his albums would give him credit for. Give him a singer and a piano player and he could put on 'The Guitar's Serenade' here in Verens, though it'd be hard to find someone to match Lamiroir's voice. Besides, after the resolutely peppy and hard songs that come with performing with Trucy, he could use the break.]

That violin has quite a sound, ja?

[Sherlock keeps playing as he talks, the hand holding the bow moving in hasty contractions to match the momentum of the notes.]

Quite so. If it were to have any less of a sound, it would not be good enough for me. I expect the very best from my instruments.

[guitarosecutor]

It doesn't bother you that it sounds nothing like a proper violin? Electric or otherwise? [Klavier can't see how it WOULDN'T. There's virtue, he supposes, in appreciating an instrument for its own merits, but after years of playing his own sound is where he wants it to be, and being forced to change irritates him something fierce.]

If it were meant to be a proper violin, then it would. However, the moment I altered it, it ceased to be a proper violin and became something else entirely. If I wanted it to sound the same, I would not have altered it at all.

[If his precious Stradivarius were to make a sound like this with no alterations whatsoever, then they'd have a problem on their hands. This, however, is fine.]
