To create the most beautiful of music from scratch, that is the true gift of artists like ourselves. Let's have at it, then, and see where the mood takes us.

[With that, he reaches down into the case to pick up the bow that accompanies the violin. He settles it carefully against his shoulder, pressing his fingers against the strings. Aaah, what a good jam session this will be.]

[Klavier starts without hesitation, simple and strong, a repeating pattern of three chords that sounds ideal for raging against machines. Something for Sherlock to build off of, since Klavier has no idea where a violinist's muse will wander.]

[Where a violinist's muse will wander is actually quite different from where Sherlock's muse will wander. Depending on his mood, he can go in any direction. He's feeling relatively good right now, though, which is why he'll join in on Klavier's three chords, just at a higher tone.]

[Up to him to lead, eh? Well, Klavier can do that no problem -- his fingers begin to wander over the strings. The melody that comes out is slower and more somber than his usual affairs, thanks to the influence of the violin.]

[Ah, slow and somber... Not what Sherlock was expecting, but he can work with it. The violin starts mingling into the tune with faster, briefer notes, almost as if it's filling in gaps.]

[Klavier has a wider ranger than most of his albums would give him credit for. Give him a singer and a piano player and he could put on 'The Guitar's Serenade' here in Verens, though it'd be hard to find someone to match Lamiroir's voice. Besides, after the resolutely peppy and hard songs that come with performing with Trucy, he could use the break.]

That violin has quite a sound, ja?

[Sherlock keeps playing as he talks, the hand holding the bow moving in hasty contractions to match the momentum of the notes.]

Quite so. If it were to have any less of a sound, it would not be good enough for me. I expect the very best from my instruments.

It doesn't bother you that it sounds nothing like a proper violin? Electric or otherwise? [Klavier can't see how it WOULDN'T. There's virtue, he supposes, in appreciating an instrument for its own merits, but after years of playing his own sound is where he wants it to be, and being forced to change irritates him something fierce.]

If it were meant to be a proper violin, then it would. However, the moment I altered it, it ceased to be a proper violin and became something else entirely. If I wanted it to sound the same, I would not have altered it at all.

[If his precious Stradivarius were to make a sound like this with no alterations whatsoever, then they'd have a problem on their hands. This, however, is fine.]

Ah, I see your point. [His own notes take on a deliberately discordant sound as he shifts his grip on the neck.] I envy that, as electric guitars as we know them do not properly exist here.

[Sherlock shakes his head somewhat wistfully, the notes he's playing changing their tempo somewhat.]

In a place like this, it is best to let go of what one knew and learn all over again.

[A good philosophy, and at a time like this especially, Klavier wishes he could embrace it.]

A wise choice, but not one I can really make when I have an established library, ja?

Libraries can become crowded, at times. When that is the case, a librarian must simply remove some of the older, less popular books.

A difficult thing when the librarian is also the author, and all the works are precious to him.

....Besides, I didn't have any less popular works, ja? Our albums always sold well.

Albums? [It takes him a moment to decipher what Klavier means, then something clicks.] ...Ah! You sell collections of your own sheet music?

What? [Klavier spends enough time around people from his own place and time (more or less) that he needs a moment to remember others aren't so familiar with technology.] No, not the sheet music. Where I come from, we have ways to store music and play it back. So anyone can listen to our songs whenever they want if they buy those recordings, ja?

[Hm? ...Oh! Hey, Sherlocks knows about that!]

Ahah! I see! You are referring to a music box and the discs that go with them, is that not so?

Ja. In part, anyways. Some of it doesn't exist physically at all. It's like thoughts in the crystals -- except if you could replay those thoughts any time you wish.

[That's- what- now Sherlock's confused again. Well, he'll just pretend he gets it and brainstorm about it some more later.]

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Truly, mankind is capable of amazing feats! [He shifts his hold on his violin a bit, playing a merry, upbeat little tune.]

[Klavier ups the tempo to match, with a smile and an electric tingle in the air from the cores.] I think they have something a little similar down in Shaarnath, but it only works once.
