[How is that a problem? Sherlock sure doesn't see it. After all, he's kind of Iris's papa too, in a way. In fact, if anything, he's more of a papa to Iris because he's been at it for ten years already.]

Mmm, right. He did so wish to take her along to Japan, but he couldn't, obviously. [OBVIOUSLY...] Iris was about a month old when he left her with me. I'm certain that he thinks about her every day, because that's the sort of man he is.

[ FROM SOMEWHERE JUST OUTSIDE THE LIVING ROOM, they can probably hear a certain partner-slash-eavesdropper do a spittake at that confirmation and start coughing, managing to spit out a single addition to this conversation between wheezes: ]

[Oh great, another one of Mikotoba's adoptive kids overheard that. ...Oh well. If it's something that'll get him into trouble, he'll deal with it if/when Mikotoba ever gets here.]

...Well, we were all led to believe it had been Dr. Watson this whole time, and you made no attempt to correct that until just now. [He can imagine Susato's excitement if she knew her father was the real partner to Sherlock Holmes.]

Led to believe? I never led any beliefs like that. You lot just jumped to assumptions, that's all. Aside from that... If I had told you that Mikotoba is Iris's papa, that would've caused problems for him, wouldn't it? To say that he was my partner is to admit to that very same thing. It wasn't my place to speak of it; not with him in Japan and unable to speak for himself.

...Right. [Holmes probably has a point and Mikotoba probably has the final say in this but...]

I hope he tells her someday. The truth will find reveal itself sooner or later, and Iris-chan can be pretty perceptive about things when she wants to be.
