How...how can that be? [He looks from Sherlock, to the calandar on the wall and then back at Sherlock, frowning.] This isn't some kind of trick you're trying to pull on me, are you?

[Oh, what a grand trick that would be. He has to try and remember this. Pull it again in a week or two, when Ryuunosuke least expects it.]

Me? Pull tricks? Why, Mr. Naruhodou, I'm shocked at the accusation! [He is not.] No no, not at all. Have you never heard of the crystallization effect that may befall Otherworlders?

[Which explains groceries, but not the box of glass work that's stashed in a corner of the room. It holds beakers and such. (Also, Sherlock forgot to buy toilet paper and now they're almost out. You're welcome.)

He knows what Ryuu is doing, of course. He does the same thing to people when he's trying to deduce things. That's why he'll finish writing his scrap of paper so he can give the man his undivided attention again. Is his topic change discreet? Not really, but when is he ever?]

Whatever Holmes did has been done and no amount of fretting is going to change the past. So he may as well ask what he was doing in his endeavor, for curiosity sake. And then fret about that.]

[Hmm. Deciding what to cook for dinner doesn't strike Sherlock as something particularly emotional. Could his theory about the cause of crystallization be off? He could try to duplicate the scenario, but he'd need more details. Hm.

Aaand they're right back to Sherlock's chemistry set. It's a good thing that Ryuunosuke doesn't seem particularly upset about it. (he likely would be if he found out that Sherlock almost singed off his own eyebrows, which is why that won't be mentioned).]

Oh, this? [He gestures towards the box with a wide smile.] I've attempted numerous tests- and succeeded, in fact! Did you know the soil in the western district of the city has an average plant-available concentration of nutrients, while the eastern district has a strikingly low concentration of it? It is far higher outside the city, of course. The farm lands are very well maintained. However, further testing showed that emotions have a notable impact on soil quality! Extensive periods of negativity do not seem to decrease the overall concentration of nutrients, rather it makes them inaccessible to plants! Isn't that remarkable?

And did you know that the pH of the water that is accessible to any civilian has a pH of 8.3 on average? It does not quite seem to match up with the levels of nitrates, nitrites and ammonia, which are high in comparison, though I suspect there may be more factors involved to aid with neutralization. Whether this centers around emotions or some other unseen component is yet to be explored.

Um, well...I suppose knowing where would benefit farmers or locating fertile land for settlement.

No no no! It's when you encounter a soil sample on a piece of evidence, or even a person! Knowledge of the origin of that soil could be the vital clue used to crack any case!

[What a greenhorn Naruhodou is. He clearly still has a lot to learn about cracking murder cases- or, really, any kind of case.]
